Blank coin found in Charlottetown

Every morning most
Islanders drive through their local coffee shop to pick up their morning coffee
and receive a hand full of change after purchasing their items.
In 2007, Frank
Murphy had purchased a coffee at Robin’s and received his change. In his change,
he noticed something a little different, one of the quarters was missing most
of its lettering on one side.
Seeing the coin
made Murphy very curious and he decided to try and find out if the coin had any
rarity or if there was any added value.
“I’ve asked
around, not many people have seen one before, I’m trying to find out some
information on it.”
The quarter is
missing the caribou in the centre but still has the writing around the outside of
the coin.
Five years later
Murphy has been searching to see if he can find someone else with the same rare
coin.
“ I’ve been
looking around to see if anyone has picked one up before, I did find one in
Nova Scotia.”
Murphy has also
contacted the Royal Canadian Mint to see if they have heard of this coin
before. The mint didn’t have
anything on the coin and has made Murphy’s search a continuing one.
One of the people
Murphy showed it to say it looks like someone buffed out the centre of the
coin. Murphy said it wouldn’t be possible.
“It couldn’t have
been buffed, it doesn’t have any marks on it in the centre,” said Murphy.
Murphy has also
looked into the value of the coin, with not much success.
